Chispas spent the first two weeks of October in Cuba organizing events for 15 excited norwegians in cooperation with Explore Travel and Salsa Innlandet. The first week was mainly spent on the dancefloor with energetic and motivating cuban dance teachers. Hilde Kristin Aam from Salsa Innlandet did a great job handling the dance workshops making sure everybody excelled from their level. At night we hit the clubs exploring different dance venues like Casa de la Musica, El Cantante and 1830. Hot salsamoves were only replaced by a visit to the rainforest of Piǹar del Rio for a day. Some decided to go hiking, others horse back riding, while the rest of us spent a relaxing day swimming in the healing waters of San Juan. A perfect place for recovery!
The second week was spent partly in the historical town of Trinidad. After a busy week in Havana it was refreshing to explore the beaches and the sea. However, it was impossible to resist the temptation of dancing at the wonderful outdoor venue of the local Casa de la Musica… On the way back to Havana we even had time to stop by Cienfuegos for lunch and take a quick look at the city centre.
Back in Havana Chispas prepared for the good-bye party. A local ”bici-taxista” got an unsual passenger when we escorted a 60 kg dead pig through the bumpy streets of central Havana to a local bakery for seasoning and grilling… Definately a meal and a party to remember! All the dance teachers and our cuban helpers were present, and besides exchanging gifts, we got a chance to thank everybody for contributing to making the trip so memorable.
Two weeks fly by way too fast, but we spent 15 days creating good memories and lots of good stories. Fortuantely, photographer Georg Bakkevik from WoW-fotostudio followed us around documenting our trip in an excellent way. We have already started making a photo book from the trip together gathering stories from our two weeks on the beautiful island of CUBA.
